Pregnancy Chiropractic Care in Singleton

Pregnancy changes the way your body carries weight, moves, and holds itself, and those changes often show up as new aches through the back, hips, and pelvis. Pregnancy chiropractic care focuses on the spine, pelvis and surrounding joints throughout each trimester, with techniques adapted to your changing body at every stage. Every visit is guided by your health history, your current symptoms, and your obstetric care.

Gentle Techniques Adjusted as Your Body Changes

As pregnancy progresses, an increased curve in the lower back, a shift in posture, and hormonal changes to the ligaments all place extra stress on the joints of the spine and pelvis. Pregnancy chiropractic care at The George Street Family Chiropractic Centre uses low-force, hands-on techniques that are adapted as these changes occur, becoming softer and more specific as the pregnancy hormone relaxin loosens the ligaments later in pregnancy.

It’s a world away from the fast, forceful adjustments people often picture. Techniques are selected based on your stage of pregnancy and adjusted to your comfort throughout each visit. Dr Kay is also certified in the Webster Technique.

The Aches and Pains Pregnancy Commonly Brings

The postural and hormonal changes of pregnancy can affect several areas at once, and consequently all areas of the spine are assessed and treated accordingly.

  • Lower back pain from the increased curve in the spine and changing posture.
  • Pelvic girdle, sacroiliac joint, and pubic symphysis discomfort
  • Hip pain linked to changes in gait and joint loading
  • Neck, shoulder, and upper back tension, sometimes with symptoms into the arms
  • Tension-type headaches related to changes in neck posture
  • Sciatic-type pain, numbness, or tingling through the buttock and leg
  • Reduced mobility or difficulty with everyday movement and comfort

Assessment and Care Built Around Pregnancy

Your first visit with Dr Chris Kay (Chiropractor) starts with a thorough case history covering your stage of pregnancy, current symptoms, previous pregnancies where relevant, and your obstetric and medical history.

Part of this conversation involves screening for symptoms that need prompt medical attention, such as bleeding, fluid loss, signs of preterm labour, severe headache, visual changes, or reduced fetal movement, so these can be referred straight to your maternity care provider.

The examination may include assessing posture, spinal and pelvic movement, joint function, muscle tension, and movement patterns, with positions modified to suit pregnancy where appropriate. X-rays are not taken during pregnancy or if pregnancy is suspected.

As your pregnancy progresses, our adjustable treatment tables allow many women to lie face down more comfortably when appropriate, while lying flat on your back is minimised to reduce pressure on major blood vessels. You’ll also have an opportunity to discuss any questions you have about chiropractic care during pregnancy and what to expect as your body continues to change.

Care That Changes With Each Trimester

Many women choose pregnancy chiropractic care to help them stay active and comfortable as their body changes, whether that means moving more easily, sleeping more comfortably, or managing the physical demands of pregnancy. Others appreciate having their spinal and pelvic movement assessed as their pregnancy progresses.

Because every trimester places different demands on the spine and pelvis, care is reviewed and adapted at each visit rather than following the same approach throughout pregnancy.

Care Built Around This Stage of Pregnancy

Aches through your back, hips, or pelvis don’t have to be something you simply put up with until your baby arrives. If pregnancy has left you feeling stiff, sore, or just not quite yourself, our chiropractor can assess your concerns and develop a personalised care plan based on your stage of pregnancy and individual needs.
